Friday 1 May 2026 ART - How can I design a Bell Beaker pot pattern? Popokotea Class collected some natural materials including twigs and stones to create a Bell Beaker pattern on clay similar to one from the Bronze Age. The children used the skills, creativity and techniques used by Bronze Age potters over 3000 years ago. We learnt that Bell Beakers often have repeating patterns. We also sketched our designs into our sketch books, that we will refer back to when we create our own Bell Beaker Pots.

Thursday 30 April 2026 English - How can I recall a non-chronological report? Using our teamwork skills, Popokotea Class role-played different sections of our model text 'Skeletons and Muscles'. Each group, rehearsed the model text and even came up with their own actions, like true performers entertaining their audience.

Thursday 30 April 2026 Maths - How can I explore pounds and pence? The children had fun exploring pounds and pence. They organised them into different groups and put them into value order. They were challenged to create a shopping list out of items from the Popokotea Shop. The children had £2 to spend at the shop and they were able to create a range of shopping lists spending their £2 in different ways.

Friday 24 April 2026 History - Trip to Dover Museum Popokotea Class put on their historian hats when they visited Dover Museum. They really enjoyed the workshop about the Bronze Age and being young archaeologists when handling the artefacts.

Thursday 2 April 2026 D&T - How can I create a machine prototype? Our task was to use our knowledge about simple machines to create a prototype that would help the Egyptians transport large bricks to build the pyramids. Popokotea Class thought that using both an incline plane and wheel and axel together would be the best solution. So, we created our prototypes. We took it in turns to saw an axel for our wheel and axel machine prototype. We had great fun and remembered the safety rules when using sharp tools. We also created a incline plane prototype using thick card.

Thursday 2 April 2026 Stations of the Cross We joined Penguin Class in the hall as they retold the Stations of the Cross. We sat in the middle as we went around and found out about each station.

Friday 27 March 2026 Popokotea Class Reward For filling up their class marble jar, Popokotea Class had a PJ day and watched a short film in the afternoon.

Friday 20 March 2026 Red Nose Day - Crazy Hair! We came in with our red noses and crazy hair to celebrate Red Nose Day!

Wednesday 11 March 2026 Philharmonia Orchestra at the Marlowe Theatre Trip KS2 went on a trip to the Marlowe Theatre to see the Philharmonia Orchestra. The amazing Philharmonia Orchestra were celebrating their birthday of 80 years! We enjoyed listening to the music and we even got to join in! Our artwork that we created of a 'futuristic orchestra' were shown on the big screen in front of the audience. We were so proud when pointing out our school's artwork!

Tuesday 10 March 2026 KCSP Science Day Popokotea really enjoyed our trust's science day! We learnt about bones and why a backbone has many small bones instead of one large bone. We investigated creating a 'bone' and tested its strength with books. They were quite strong!

Friday 6 March 2026 D&T - How can I explore simple machines? Popokotea and Giraffe Class explored different simple machines that Miss Marvier created.

Thursday 5 March 2026 Geography - How can I sort human and physical features? In groups, we sorted out geographical features into human features and physical features. We understood that human features are man-made and physical features are created by nature.

Wednesday 4 March 2026 Japanese Workshop St Joseph's had some Japanese students visit our school! We showed them our learning in the morning and in the afternoon they gave us workshops and taught us how to: write our names in Japanese, make origami and speak some Japanese phrases. We had so much fun!

Tuesday 3 March 2026 Science - How does light behave when it is reflected? Popokotea Class investigated how light behaves when it is reflected. We use torches and mirrors to observe how light behaves.

Friday 13 February 2026 D&T - How can I make and evaluate a healthy snack? Popokotea and Giraffe Class practised their chopping, slicing and peeling skills when making their healthy snacks. We made rainbow fruit skewers and hummus with vegetable sticks. We read the recipes and got to making.

Friday 13 February 2026 D&T - How can I create food packaging for my product? Before making our rainbow fruit skewers and hummus with vegetable sticks product, we created packaging for them. We made sure to include a use by date, dietary and nutritional information. We made sure to have a picture of our product on the packaging. We also used bright colours so that it would catch the eye of potential buyers.

Friday 13 February 2026 D&T - How can I create food packaging prototype? Popokotea Class made their own prototype food packaging. We created a design on the net of the shape we chose making sure to include a best before date and dietary information. We used our previous knowledge of 3-D shapes to help us put the nets together.

Thursday 12 February 2026 PE - Intra-sport Competition Popokotea Class really enjoyed orienteering with our PE coach Ellen. We used our teamwork skills to find the numbers and letters around the playground. It was so much fun!

Wednesday 11 February 2026 Street Football Workshop The children really enjoyed coming to school in their football gear and learning new skills at the Street Football Workshop. We learnt many thing like; how to flick the ball up and how to balance a ball on our necks for a long time.
