Memory Box

Next week we will be starting our class topic called Memory box. It is a history focus which delves into the children's own past looking at how they have changed as well as looking at family member's past. By the end of the topic they will celebrate by designing their own boxes to hold their treasured memories.

Below you will find our topic web for this term as well as our Medium/Long term plan so you can see what topics we will be covering for the year.

There is also a copy of the Knowledge organiser which the children will have in class.

Next Friday the children will be bringing home their Learning Logs. There will be a menu choice of activities for your child to choose from over the term and they can be done in any order. Learning logs will need to be returned on a Tuesday to quarantine ready to be handed back on a Friday.

Key information:

  • PE kits to be worn every Tuesday. Please ensure your child is wearing the correct PE kit. If your child wears earrings they must be taped up before they come to school or removed for health and safety reasons.
  • Reading books will need to be handed on Fridays ready to be changed on Mondays. This allows you time to reread the book and to ask comprehension style questions to ensure that your child has understood the text and to develop their fluency. You can record other books that they read from home too. Please can you return any books that your child had from their previous class if you have not done so already.
  • Water bottles must be in every day. Make sure their name is clearly written and it is washed and cleaned everyday. Water only, no fruit juice or squash.
  • Uniform must be clearly labelled.
  • No pencil cases or belongings from home ( unless requested)
  • Learning logs will return but we are currently focusing on reading.

  • Unfortunately we have already had a few cases of 'headlice' reported in class. Please can you check your child regularly and treat their hair as soon as possible to ensure it does not spread.

The first two weeks we are going to be completing a whole school project based around a wonderful book 'Here we are' by Oliver Jeffers. Come back in a couple of weeks to see what we have been getting up to!

If you have any concerns or queries, please email

faye@stjosephs-aylesham.org.

I will aim to reply within 24 hours. If it is urgent, please telephone the school office.

Good morning Fire class!

How is it July already?

I think these weeks are flying now and it won’t be long until you will all be back in September.

Hopefully you would have all received an invite from school to meet your teacher on the last week of term. It will be so lovely to see you all especially those Year 2’s who will be moving into Year 3!

You should also be receiving your end of year reports soon so keep your eyes peeled for emails from the school.

I hope you are all keeping well!

Remember to keep safe and be happy!

All my love,

Mrs Austin

Monday 29th June

Term 6 – Week 5

Good morning Fire class!

Wasn’t that a scorcher of a week last week? I hope you all kept safe and enjoyed the sunny weather.

It is nearing the end of summer term and we are beginning to prepare for transition for our new classes which is sad for us all as we do not get to do the usual things we would do to prepare you all for your new classes.

I do hope you have a good week and keep your eyes open for news on transition or messages from your new teachers which you may receive in the coming weeks.

Take care and miss you all dearly,

Mrs Austin J

Monday 22nd June

Term 6 – Week 4

Good morning Fire class, I hope you have had another lovely week at home. Did you all receive your postcards? I hope you liked your little messages.

It looks like it is going to be another hot and sunny week so make sure that you keep safe and wear plenty of sun scream, drink plenty of water and wear a hat.

This is perfect weather for ice-creams and lollies! Be creative, can you create your own flavours or toppings?

I would have; butterscotch and pecan ice-cream and maybe a scoop of vanilla as well, sprinkled with popping candy and caramel sauce!! YUMMY!!!!

MONDAY 1st JUNE - TERM 6 WEEK 1

HELLO FIRE CLASS

I trust you have had a wonderful sunny half term.

Good luck to the children in Year 1 that are going back to school I hope that you all have fun and I am looking forward to seeing you all.

For children who are not attending school just yet there is learning provided. Remember you are not expected to spend your whole day trying to complete this learning just do what you can and do not worry.  We are always learning with everything we do even when playing out in the sunshine.

Remember your hat and suncream and stay safe.  We miss you all!

Monday 18th May

Hello Fire Class!

Hello everyone!

Another week of lockdown means another week of home learning.

I hope you are all well.

The sun is shining this week so lots of opportunities for outdoor learning and activities.smiley

I have slightly reduced the work I add on the Fire home page.

I have still included, some spelling, a little maths and English 2Do’s as well as a little RE and topic.

These are all optional for you to use.

I feel that this time at home should be used to develop life long skills such as baking, gardening, arts and crafts. These skills can be transferred to their learning and will help them develop into confident ‘grown ups’

The learning we share is for you to use in your own time and in your own way. We do not expect you to print everything off which is why we provided exercise books. As long as your child has access to a device, they should be able to access some form of learning, whether it is from our Class pages or from the extensive range of websites providing additional learning.

Remember, next week (Monday 25th) is half term so we will not be adding any home learning.

From June 1st there will be more changes to the pages as we start our return to school. Project based activities will be added to each home page only but we will still add 2do’s on Purple Mash.

If you or your child desire more learning then I would recommend ‘Oak national academy’ where they provide online lessons and activities.

https://www.thenational.academy/

Remember, because you are at home, we are not expecting you to resume normal school hours and we do not want to add any more pressure or anxiety to anyone. Therefore, the work we set is just recommended for you try and have a go.

We are available to contact within usual school hours using our email and we will try our best to help you as much as possible with any questions or queries. You do not need to send us any work for marking but ask a ‘grown up’ or older sibling to check your work and to help where possible.

Monday 11th May

Hello Fire Class!

Hi everyone!

It was so lovely speaking to most of you last week and to hear about all the exciting things you have been doing during lockdown.

It sounds like lots of you are making the most of this precious time together by making special memories, doing lots of things you would perhaps not have had time for before.

I have seen lots of cooking, gardening, arts, crafts and exercising. It’s so lovely to see whole families joining in too!

As we keep reiterating ‘wellbeing’ is our main priority for all of you (adults included!)  and all these activities are great life, long, learning skills.

As I said to some of you who are struggling to get their child to do school work at home, it is not the same as being in a classroom.

During these unprecedented times, all children are in the same situation and your child will not be at a disadvantage to others if they are not doing much work and we will not be making any judgements on your child’s learning.

The learning we share is for you to use in your own time and in your own way. We do not expect you to print everything off which is why we provided exercise books. As long as your child has access to a device, they should be able to access some form of learning, whether it is from our Class pages or from the extensive range of websites providing additional learning.

Monday 4th May

Hello Fire Class!

I hope you are all still keeping safe and well! I cannot tell you how much we all miss you at St Joseph’s and we cannot wait to be back and see all your happy, smiling faces!

Fingers crossed we may have some more news at the end of the week with regards to returning to school.

In the mean time here is another week of work for you to access. As it is VE day on Friday this weeks topic learning will be focused on that special day.

Take a look in the #smallbutmighty page for ideas and suggestions for planning and celebrating VE day!

Keep up the good work everyone! It’s great to see that some of you have been attempting Purple Mash too!!

There will be enough work to last the week for you to have go at.

Hello Fire Class!

I would usually be saying ‘Welcome back!’ but for the time being we are all still keeping safe by staying at home.laugh

I hope you have had a lovely Easter and have eaten lots of yummy chocolate eggs and had fun at home with your families. wink

It has been so lovely to see what you have all been up to since we have been off and it looks like you are making the most of ‘Self isolating’.yes

Because we are still on ‘Lockdown’ we will continue to set a range of curriculum learning for you to complete at home in your own time. These will be posted on our website on our class page every Monday. heart

There are plenty of websites we have already recommended for you to use on our website.

BBC bitesize will be starting daily lessons from Monday 20th April which you can access and use as well.
