🌞 Welcome to Sunbears Class! 🐻

Hello Sunbears (and families too)! We are so excited to welcome you into our class. This year is going to be full of fun, laughter and lots of learning adventures together.

In Reception, we learn in lots of different ways – through playing, exploring, asking questions and trying things out for ourselves. Every day is a chance to discover something new, whether it’s building, painting, counting, story-telling, or making new friends.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) simply means we help children grow in all the important areas – like learning to talk and listen, making friends, being confident, and starting their journey in reading, writing and maths. Most of all, it’s about helping each child to feel happy, safe and proud of what they can do.

We engage in all areas of the Early Years Curriculum in our outdoor and indoor classrooms.  We plan and assess using the 7 areas of Learning and the Characteristics of Effective learning identified in the Early Years Curriculum.

When children join St Joseph's we ensure: 

• A smooth transition from Nursery to Reception and Reception to Year One.
• Strong links with parents from the earliest opportunity.
• A start to school appropriate to the developmental needs of all our children.
• An environment where all our children are safe, happy and secure.

We can’t wait to see our Sunbears shine brightly this year. Together, we’ll make sure every child has a wonderful start to their learning journey.

Key Information for September 2025

 

From 3^rd – 5^th September Sunbears will have a start of 9am and finish at 3pm.

Our normal school day will be 8.35am - 3.15pm starting Monday 8^th September

Sunbears will be having lunch in the classroom from Wednesday 3^rd to Friday 5^th September-

Please provide a packed lunch.

The children will join the rest of the school for lunches in the hall from Monday 8^th September.

Lunches are free.

Please sign up for their lunches to ensure they are booked in for a dinner

Our school lunches are provided by Chartwells and can be paid for on Parentpay.

Please inform the school of any allergies ASAP

 **Please wear your PE kit to school on Thursdays starting on Thursday 11^th September ** 

 **Sun cream - please apply before school. If children need to reapply their sun cream during the school day, please contact the office to complete a permission form and provide their named sun cream. **.

When we start giving out reading books, please bring Reading Records to school every day as we may read with your child during the day. 

Please continue to practice putting on hats, gloves, coats, shoes, jumpers, zips and buttons at home.

Please name all jumpers, hats, gloves, scarves, coats, shoes, packed lunch bags/boxes.

You can leave a set of wellies, wet weather gear and a spare change of clothes (clearly labelled) so the children can enjoy play in all weather types and can change if they get too mucky or have an accident.
