Penguin - Year 5 and 6

Welcome to Penguin Class!

Term 1 - Firedamp and Davy lamps

 Why does Aylesham exist?

This term, we will visit Aylesham Heritage Centre and have a look at genuine coal-mining artifacts, speak to ex- miners and find out first-hand what it was like as a coal miner in Snowdown Colliery.  Back in the classroom, we’ll find out about the many dangers of mining and why health and safety laws are important in the world today, and we’ll use geological maps to identify coal seams in the UK. We’ll also learn about the importance of coal during the Industrial Revolution, the process of the ‘no choice’ lottery and the miners’ strikes.

Please encourage your child to log on to the Time Tables Rock Stars and Ed Shed  login details can be found in reading records. Spellings will be given to some children on Fridays  to be learnt by the following Thursday.

Our PE lessons will take place on Mondays and Thursdays

Please come to school dressed in your PE kit on these days with earrings removed and hair tied back.

Any problems, please come and speak to the Penguin class team

Thank you

Mrs Simpson and Mrs Chapman.
